A new video ad supported by Covington Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #1 takes aim at Republican State Rep. Adam Koenig, who is fighting for re-election in House District 69 against Democratic challenger Col Owens.
The two and a half-minute video is circulating on social media, and targets Koenig’s vote for legislation that opponents say cut benefits for workers injured on the job, including police officers.
This issue was also highlighted by Owens in a debate with Koenig hosted by The River City News.
FOP president Bryan Bogard said, “Koenig was hell-bent on pursuing his extreme political ideology.”
The video says Koenig went too far in his vote, and urges voters to support Owens.
“House Bill 2 reformed our workers compensation system for the first time in 22 years,” Koenig said in a statement to The River City News. “The bill made many common sense changes. It had broad support, including support from the Kentucky League of Cities, Kentucky Association of Counties, and Lexington firefighters. In fact, some benefits were actually increased in the bill, and it passed on a bipartisan basis.
“Sadly, that ad is littered with inaccuracies almost too many to mention. The citizens of the 69th district know me personally and know baseless attack ads when they see them.”
