Terri Lynn Courtney is seeking another term as Walton mayor, a position she assumed in 2024 following the resignation of former Mayor Gabe Brown.

A lifelong Walton resident, Courtney first joined city government in February 2020, when she was appointed to fill an unexpired term on Walton City Council. She subsequently won election to the council and served for four years before being appointed mayor in May 2024.

Her appointment followed Brown’s resignation amid an investigation into his use of city funds and property. Courtney defeated Brown in the November 2024 special election.

Since taking office, Courtney has emphasized improving financial oversight, updating city policies and addressing Walton’s aging infrastructure.

One of the most significant issues during her tenure has been the city’s wastewater treatment system, which has operated near capacity and limited new residential and commercial development.

In December 2024, the Walton City Council approved a 2% occupational tax to help finance improvements to the sewer system. The city subsequently began preparing for an expansion of its wastewater treatment facilities.

Courtney has also supported establishing a city administrator position to oversee daily operations, assist with policymaking and represent Walton in discussions with county and state officials. Walton appointed its first city administrator in September 2025.

LINK nky contacted Courtney with questions about their background, priorities and reasons for seeking office but did not receive a response before publication.
