The LINK nky Team of the Week for Sept. 28-Oct. 4 presented by Ortho Cincy is the Walton-Verona volleyball team.
A bonus for the Walton-Verona volleyball team is that they are now eligible for Team of the Season (TOS) for the fall sports season. The weekly nominations and winners for fall will run through October. St. Henry boys soccer was the first winner for fall, Calvary Christian boys soccer the second, Holy Cross volleyball the third, Conner football the fourth, Cooper girls soccer the fifth, Highlands boys golf the sixth and Walton-Verona volleyball the seventh.
A vote will follow for TOS when the fall sports season is wrapped up to determine the winner. The winner for TOS will then be one of three nominees for Team of the Year (TOY) voting in June. Each TOS winner will receive a $500 scholarship that will go to an athlete of their choice.
For the team that is awarded TOY, online and print articles will again be published, a large commemorative plaque will be presented and the school will receive an additional $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year. The call for nominations, voting and winning announcement for each will follow the same format as the TOTW.
Walton-Verona Volleyball
Walton-Verona went 3-0 the week of Sept. 28-Oct. 4 with wins over Dixie Heights, Villa Madonna and Simon Kenton.
The victory over Simon Kenton was their first since 2017, snapping a 13-match losing streak to their district rivals. The 3-0 week improved them to 16-13 on the year.
