Alec Angel said he is running for Southgate City Council because he wants to use his professional experience in business, manufacturing and operations to help address issues facing the city.

Angel said he has grown to appreciate Southgate during his time as a resident and wants to better understand what residents value as the city plans for its future.

Angel faces Jackson Curry, Elizabeth Hartman, Jason Lanham, Aileen R. Okura, Daniel J. Speier, Tommy Whitehead and Phyllis Yeager in the Nov. 3 election.

“What motivates me is having the opportunity to make a tangible difference for the residents of Southgate,” Angel said. “Public service is the perfect opportunity to leverage what I naturally enjoy doing to positively impact my neighbors and community.”

Angel works for Procter & Gamble on its fabric care brands, where he said his responsibilities include making investment and growth decisions. He previously worked as a manufacturing engineer at General Electric, with experience managing projects, bids, budgets and suppliers.

Angel studied engineering at the University of Cincinnati and earned an MBA. He said his professional background has also given him experience in budgeting, investing, operations and long-term planning.

If elected, Angel said his first priority would be learning more about residents’ concerns and how Southgate’s city government operates before recommending changes.

Angel is participating in the 2026 Campbell County Citizens Academy, which he said is part of his effort to better understand local government and its operations.
