Laura Fincher said she is running for Alexandria City Council because she wants the city to remain a good place to raise a family while balancing its local character with business growth.
Fincher is raising three young children in Alexandria and said she wants the city to offer attractive amenities and a strong sense of community. She also wants to encourage business growth that allows residents to spend more of their money within the city and further invest in Alexandria’s police department.
Laura Fincher faces Tom Baldridge, Patrick Blair, Stacey Graus, Michael McGrath, Nick Sears and Christopher Vaught-Hall in the Nov. 3 general election.
“One of my favorite sayings is, ‘The grass isn’t greener on the other side of the fence; it’s greener where you water it,’” Fincher said. “Serving on city council is one of the ways I hope to water the grass where I am.”
Fincher said her motivation for public service also comes from her faith and a desire to contribute to the community where she lives.
If elected, Fincher said one of her first priorities would be working with city staff and fellow council members to find ways to maximize resident engagement at Alexandria’s new city hall and community center.
Fincher said she also wants to explore additional amenities for families as Alexandria continues to grow.
