Week 7 LINK nky Pick ’em

Week 7 is here!

This year at LINK nky, we decided to add some fun to our football coverage. We’re going to do a weekly picks contest with the three of the sports writers (Evan Dennison, Ray Schaefer and Josh Kalb) we have here and throw in a little twist…a guest picker each week. The guest picker will most likely be someone you recognize as a member of our community, whether it be someone who is on the sidelines with us, sports TV personalities, former coaches or players or someone who may not even be entrenched in the sports scene, but still invested in our communities to some capacity.

Shew, it was an ugly week for the pickers! Our guest Ben Brown was the only one to go over .500 at 6-4. Josh went 5-5, Evan 4-6 and Ray a putrid 2-8. Josh has jumped back in the lead by a game over Evan while the guest pickers combined sit just three games back of Josh. Ray needs to get going, eight games back.

This week’s guest picker: Dave Hartman

Dave is born and bred Covington. A 1988 graduate of Holmes High School and after graduating from NKU, he spent 31 years in education teaching and coaching at Holmes, recently retiring.

Hartman says he’ll likely return to education and may get back into some coaching, but for now, you have to follow his social media with the “Sugartit Times Picayune”. Dave, Jonathan Hopkins and Sam Elsbernd attend a football game of the week in NKY and give their thoughts on the matchup via livestream at halftime and after the game on the NKY High School Football Facebook page. Dave also provides weekly previews of NKY games on the NKY High School Facebook page with the history of their mascot, their voyages to get there and some solid vocabulary on the teams’ mascots. Hartman has three kids, two daughters and a son. His son Drew is his youngest, “The boy down the hall”, a recent graduate of Cooper who is now attending UK. Drew played football, basketball and baseball at Cooper.
