Camco Chemical, a Northern Kentucky-based chemical manufacturer, has donated $15,000 to TradesNKY to support the development of a curriculum tailored to middle school students.
TradesNKY is a nonprofit that provides skilled trades education to students in Northern Kentucky. The grant, made through the Rolfes Family Fund at the Horizon Community Foundation of Northern Kentucky, will support TradesNKY’s new MAKE initiative.
The MAKE initiative was developed alongside Northern Kentucky businesses to introduce middle school students to careers in modern manufacturing.
“This partnership is exactly what TradesNKY is about, bringing education and industry together to help young people understand the opportunities that exist right here in our community,” TradesNKY Executive Director Lorraine O’Moore said in a news release.
The grant was announced on Sept. 17 at the groundbreaking ceremony for Camco Chemical’s new logistics facility in Independence.
“As a third-generation, family-owned manufacturer born and raised in Northern Kentucky, we believe that investing in our children, giving them the tools, skills, and opportunities to succeed, delivers one of the greatest returns we can make,” Camco Chemical CEO Adrian Hothem said in the release. “Developing and deploying curriculum and programs that engage and excite future generations about careers in manufacturing is essential to the continued success of manufacturers like Camco and to the long-term strength and prosperity of the Northern Kentucky community.”
The ultimate goal of the program is to develop a curriculum that meets Kentucky Department of Education requirements and can be implemented by school districts in their district-wide trade education programs.
