Covington’s Oktoberfest returns to MainStrasse Village this weekend for three days of food, beer and live entertainment.
The free festival runs Friday, Sept. 11, through Sunday, Sept. 13, at Goebel Park, located at 501 Philadelphia St., and along portions of 6th and Main streets. Festival hours are noon to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Covington’s Oktoberfest has been a staple in MainStrasse Village for decades, attracting residents and visitors to the city for the annual event. The festival dates back to the late 1970s, around the time MainStrasse was being redeveloped into a historic neighborhood and cultural district.
Covington-based Braxton Brewing Company will serve beer during the festival, including seasonal craft offerings and German-style beers. In addition, food vendors will offer German-inspired festival fare, including bratwurst, sausages and pretzels. Other vendors will sell goods throughout the festival area.
Oktoberfest will also feature live music, dancing and activities throughout the weekend. Festival competitions include stein-holding contests.
The City of Covington’s online event calendar details that portions of W. 6th Street and Philadelphia Street are closed until Monday, Sept. 14, for Oktoberfest.
