The annual Tunnel to Towers 5K returns to Crescent Springs this weekend to honor those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The 3.1-mile race, which raises money to support first responders and military members, is scheduled for 8 to 10 a.m. at 800 Buttermilk Pike. Donations to participating teams and individuals will remain open for six weeks after the race.
The Tunnel to Towers 5K series honors New York City firefighter Stephen Siller, who was 34 when he died responding to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in Lower Manhattan.
Registration is $40 for adults, $35 for first responders and military members, $25 for participants ages 13 to 17 and $15 for children 12 and younger. Registration will also be available on race day, although prices will increase and T-shirts are not guaranteed for those who register late. To register, click here.
Participants can pick up race packets at TriState Running Company, 148 Barnwood Drive, Edgewood, from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, or from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11. Race-day packet pickup begins at 7 a.m.
Parking will not be available inside the park. Several nearby parking lots will be available, and shuttle service will operate from the Park & Ride lot on Buttermilk Pike. Strollers and wheelchairs are permitted on the course. Participants may also run or walk while wearing firefighter turnout gear or military backpacks.
