Beechwood High School counselor Megan Minton was named the 2026 Kentucky Community and Technical College System ‘Pathfinder of the Year.’

‘Pathfinder of the Year’ award recognizes a high school counselor who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in helping students explore college and career opportunities.

As ‘Pathfinder of the Year,’ Minton received a $1,000 scholarship for a Beechwood student to attend any of the 16 colleges within the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.

“I believe in the meaning behind this work and feel honored to be doing it,” Minton said in a news release. “This is an affirmation that we’re moving in the right direction and being responsive to the needs of our world. That’s invaluable and being connected to this in any way is hugely motivating.”

According to KCTCS, Beechwood’s participation in dual credit courses has increased by 64% since Minton joined the school five years ago, rising from 111 students in 2021 to 182 during the most recent school year.

Dual credit programs allow high school students to earn college credits before graduation, which can reduce the cost of earning a college degree and provide earlier access to career-focused training and credential programs.
