Joel Walters is one of nine candidates running for the six-member Ludlow City Council. He told LINK nky that he had been inspired to run after seeing the field had become so competitive.

“I hope voters see us as an alternative to other candidates who may have a specific agenda or political motivation,” Walters said.

Walters and his wife, he said, have been trying to help out the community over the past year by regularly picking up litter on the streets.

“Many residents have probably seen us as we walk with our buckets and grabbers,” Walters said. “We have talked to more people and have had more positive interactions in this past year than in our previous two decades of residence.”

As such, Walters said that cleaning up the town would be one of his first priorities if elected, especially to help out low-income families, seniors and residents with disabilities.

More specific priorities include infrastructure improvements, such as the addition of a concrete ramp at Ludlow Memorial Park. He also wants to reduce property tax rates, hoping instead to “reduce costs and possibly find alternative sources of revenue.”

“I would like to see increased home ownership by supporting affordable housing initiatives and home rehabilitation projects,” Walters said.
