For the first time in program history, Cooper football is undergoing a head coaching change.
After Randy Borchers resigned in April, the lone coach in the 18-year history of the program, Cooper announced the hiring of Adam Begley to head football coach on Friday.
Begley was the freshman coach for the Jaguars and the assistant varsity offensive line coach previously. He’s been involved with the program since 2014.
“Coach Begley brings a strong background in leadership, player development and community involvement having coached at the youth, middle school, freshman and varsity levels since 2014,” Cooper High School released in a statement.
Begley was the founder and former director for the youth football organization.
“He has been instrumental in helping build continuity throughout the Cooper football pipeline,” the release said.
Begley has served as a firefighter with 25 years of service. He takes over a program coming off its best four-year run in program history that’s come with 40 wins in that stretch and back-to-back state runner-up finishes in 2023 and 2024. They’ve had several players go on to play college football.
He’ll inherit a team that is set to have 24 players graduate in late May, including the program’s all-time leading passer (Cam O’Hara), all-time leading rusher (Keagan Maher) and all-time interceptions leader (Ryker Campbell). Cooper’s top passer, top three leading rushers, four of the top five leading receivers and top five tacklers are all graduating.
