Ryle alum Josh Furtado will be the school’s next Athletic Director when the 2026-27 school calendar year begins in July.

Furtado’s hiring was announced last week, he’ll replace Mike Woolf, who is retiring at the end of the school year. Woolf has been the AD since 2022.

Prior to taking on the role, Furtado has some big business ahead…graduating college. He’s a senior at Morehead State University and plays on the Eagles baseball team. He’s studying business management at Morehead.

“His passion and love for Ryle is what truly made him stand out in our interview process,” Ryle principal Matt Shafer said. “We are looking forward to his energy and technological savvy to help modernize our athletic program and promote all 31 of our sports as we continue to grow.”

Furtado started his college baseball career at Transylvania University before transferring to Morehead as a sophomore. His current role with the Eagles baseball team is a reliever, logging 11.1 innings this season.

When he was at Ryle, Furtado’s passion for the school and getting everyone involved in the school community was what he was known for.

“Beyond grateful for the opportunity ahead,” Furtado said. “Huge thanks to Matt Shafer and his admin for their belief in myself and my values. Excited to give back to the school, community, and people that helped shape me into the person I am today.”
