Fourth-grade students at Lincoln Elementary School donated $1,000 to a local nonprofit as part of an innovative Adopt A Class program.
Go Pantry, a Florence-based nonprofit focused on combating food insecurity, was selected as the winner after students absorbed multiple presentations by regional nonprofits, including Learning Grove and the Northern Kentucky Emergency Shelter.
This project was designed specifically for students at Lincoln Elementary, which is part of the Dayton Independent School District in Campbell County. The event, held at the OneNKY Center in Covington, marked the culmination of a months-long philanthropic mentorship initiative. Some of the community partners involved with the initiative included EducateNKY, the Catalytic Fund and Horizon Community Foundation of Northern Kentucky.
“Partnering with Adopt a Class has brought opportunities and experiences to our students that they otherwise would not have had,” Dayton Superintendent Rick Wolf said in a news release. “Opportunities such as a visit to the OneNKY Center or listening to a local entrepreneur speak could introduce a child to something they’ve never seen or heard before. I am beyond excited that we are partnering with Adopt a Class.”
The program was part of Adopt A Class, a mentorship nonprofit that connects students with professionals throughout Greater Cincinnati. The program is active in nearly every public school district in Northern Kentucky. Typically, professionals will visit a school district on a monthly basis, exposing students to a lesson plan tailored to their career field.
