The Independence City Council on March 2 gave the green-light to the final contract bid for the new Memorial Park Splash Pad, which the city hopes to open by Memorial Day weekend.

The council agreed to accept a bid of $483,006.50 from Civil Solutions Associates, a Cincinnati-based engineering firm. Mayor Chris Reinersman said Monday’s bid acceptance would put the final price tag of the project at $1.3 million.

“This is the final component,” Reinersman said. “This is the installation of equipment. We bought the equipment; we built the site out.”

Talks of the project date back to the summer of 2024.

“We’re pretty far into this project, and we’ve got a lot of folks that are excited to have it,” Reinersman said.

The city had been in talks about offering naming rights to the splash pad, but Reinersman said that even though a company had expressed interest, they had offered “a much lower number than we were originally hoping.”

“We’re still having conversations with them,” he said.
