The City of Independence recognized the achievements of athletes in the Simon Kenton High School swimming and diving teams with special proclamations Monday night.

Specifically, swimmers Nathan McCrory, Parker Davis, Evan Iles and Owen Iles, as well as diver Isaiah Reinhart, received proclamations. For example, Tuesday, March 3, 2026, was proclaimed Isaiah Reinhart Day.

“The City of Independence and its residents applaud the accomplishments of our many student athletes and wish to support and encourage them,” Mayor Chris Reinersman read from a proclamation.

Reinhart was the runner-up in this year’s one-meter diving state championships and was recognized as the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s 2026 Athlete of the Year for swimming and diving.

All of the swimmers made it to the state championships and most broke school records. Sophomore Evan Iles, for instance, now holds the most records in the school’s history.

“These four gentlemen have collectively secured the highest regional finishes and the most state qualifications in Simon Kenton history,” Reinersman said.
