The first licensed medical cannabis dispensary in Northern Kentucky opened over the weekend.
Bluegrass Cannacare, located at 6809 Burlington Pike in Florence, opened its doors to customers for the first time on Saturday, Feb. 7. The dispensary operates out of a former Cricket Wireless store.
“As someone who lives in Northern Kentucky and has represented this region, I know how important it is for patients here to have safe, reliable access close to home,” Executive Director of The Kentucky Cannabis Industry Alliance Rachel Roberts said in a news release about the opening. “The opening of Bluegrass Cannacare means patients in Boone, Kenton, Campbell, and surrounding counties won’t have to travel far to access the medicine they rely on. That matters for real people, real families, and real health needs in this community.”

The dispensary is owned by Dripwell Vapors — a vapor supply and e-cigarette retailer at in Fort Wright.
Under Kentucky state law, only patients with qualifying debilitating conditions may purchase medical cannabis.
These conditions include cancer, chronic severe pain, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, chronic nausea, and post-traumatic stress disorder. In addition, the patient must have written permission from a medical doctor or an advanced nurse practitioner, along with a state identification card.
