The 4th Street Bridge is scheduled to close the week of Jan. 12 for the construction of a new bridge until at least the summer of 2028, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced Wednesday.

The bridge, also known as the KY 8 Bridge, connects Covington and Newport across the Licking River. The cabinet has not announced the exact date of the closure, but details will be released in the coming weeks.

“The bridge will be closed to all road users (vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists) through Summer 2028,” the cabinet wrote in its announcement. “Vehicle traffic can detour using the Girl Scout Bridge between Covington and Newport, the Brent Spence Bridge, Clay Wade Bailey Bridge or the Taylor Southgate Bridge.”

TANK will provide a free shuttle service for travelers who currently frequent the bridge. You can find out more about the shuttle service at ky8bridge.org/shuttle-detour-info.
