A Minneapolis-based airline is set to open a new operation at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
Sun Country Airlines is a budget airline that targets leisure travelers. Additionally, the airline has a growing cargo operation, as it operates Amazon Prime cargo flights. CVG is home to Amazon Air’s North American Superhub and is among the fastest-growing cargo airports in the country.
CVG will function as a main site for stationing cargo aircraft and where local crews will start and finish flight assignments.
In a press release, airline officials stated the move was a strategic expansion aimed at growing the company’s cargo operations and passenger service network.
“Amazon and our cargo operation is a critical segment of our differentiated business model and enables our scheduled service seasonal flexibility and growth,” Sun Country CEO Jude Bricker said in the release. “We are pleased to open this base, which will support our service and efficiency across our operation. Moreover, this offers new opportunities for advancement for our pilots.”
Sun Country will continue using shared CVG facilities. The airline will officially open the base on Jan. 31, 2026. Sun Country is actively hiring pilots at CVG.
