The City of Covington is asking residents to keep broken or unwanted holiday lights out of the landfill by taking part in its annual recycling program.

Starting Dec. 1 and continuing through Feb. 28, Covington will collect all types of string lights, both incandescent and LED, at four drop-off locations. The program, run in partnership with Cohen Recycling, is meant to give residents a simple way to dispose of nonworking lights.

Cohen will also accept other electric holiday decorations, including projectors and motors from inflatable yard displays, at any of its recycling centers.

Drop-off sites include:

  • Covington City Hall, 20 W. Pike St.
    Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
  • Covington Fire Department Station 5, 1255 Hands Pike
    Bin available 24/7
  • The Center for Great Neighborhoods, 321 MLK Jr. Blvd./W. 12th St.
    Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.–noon
  • Covington Public Works, 1730 Russell St.
    Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.

More details about accepted items are available on Cohen Recycling’s website.
