The Northern Kentucky Water District (NKWD), in collaboration with Kenton County Fiscal Court, is extending public water service to previously unserved roads in Kenton County through the Subdistrict O Water Main Extension Project. This extension will bring water access to approximately 61 currently unserved households.

“Every project we undertake is guided by our commitment to safe, sustainable water and the people we serve,” said Northern Kentucky Water District President/CEO Lindsey Rechtin. “This project is a clear example of that commitment in action. We are thankful to our partners at Kenton County Fiscal Court and to the Kentucky Legislature and the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority for their continued support in our mission and helping make this project a reality.”

“This project brings clean, dependable water and stronger fire protection to more Kenton County families,” said Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann. “Kenton County made a substantial investment in this project because access to safe water is a vital piece of a healthy community. Through partnership with the Northern Kentucky Water District and our state and federal partners, we’re ensuring every dollar we collectively invest makes a lasting impact.”

The project is in partnership with Kenton County Fiscal Court and is funded in part with federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds through the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority’s Cleaner Water Grants Program as appropriated by the Kentucky Legislature, and local resources. The $4.1 million project will add approximately 4 miles of water main to NKWD’s existing system. Construction on the Subdistrict O project began in early November and will continue through August 2026.

Roads Included:

• Alexander Road (Fiskburg Road to St. Mary’s Road)
• Elliot Road (KY 17 to Pendleton County Line)
• Fiskburg Road (Goshorn to Alexander Road)
• Gene Street (Off Walton Nicholson Road)
• Highwater Road (River Heights Lane to #1873)
• Mann Road (Steep Creek to #11290)
• Scenic Ridge Drive (Off Pelly Road)
• Steep Creek (Ryland Country Club/KY 177 to #3704 at bridge)

After the completion of this project, there will be over 800 miles of water main installed in Kenton County and over 99% of residents with access to public water.

“At NKWD, we envision a better community through safe, sustainable drinking water. We remain committed to bringing this vision to life through projects like this,” noted Rechtin.
