A familiar Northern Kentucky pizza chain is expanding its footprint in Alexandria, with Snappy Tomato Pizza set to open a pickup-only shop along U.S. 27.

Snappy is relocating to 1 Paul Lane in Alexandria, a former dentist’s office. In April 2024, the location changed to a highway commercial zone. Snappy is doing an adaptive reuse of the building. The plans were presented to the Alexandria Planning and Zoning Commission in November, as the pizza shop is adding a pick-up window to the location.

“Plans on the inside of the building are going great,” Campbell County Planning and Zoning Director Cindy Minter said. “They’re moving along with that just fine.”

The pick-up window is not a drive-through window. It is a similar model to what LaRosa’s Pizzeria operates in Cold Spring and Newport. The Snappy Tomato will strictly be a pickup-only location with no dine-in option.

The hours of operation are expected to be Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

As for traffic, Minter said the pizzeria is not open during morning peak hours. During the evening peak between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., Minter said that Snappy indicated they have fewer than 50 orders anticipated. That falls below what the city requires for a traffic study.

Minter said that staff have requested a review of the landscaping plan, lighting plan, dumpster details, a sidewalk extension to the driveway, and a pedestrian path to be striped across the parking lot.

The commission briefly discussed the number of trees surrounding the site, and Minter said that the company has cut down some trees in the front to better see the building from U.S. 27, but plans to keep most of the trees in the back.

Alexandria Planning and Zoning Chair Nick Reitman said the plans were straightforward as an adaptive reuse and did not require any variances or zone changes.

“I think it’s a good use for the site,” said Reitman. “I think it’s going to be something positive.”

Alexandria Planning and Zoning Vice-Chair Sonny Markus asked if anyone living in the subdivision behind the proposed location had shared any comments or feedback. Minter said she hadn’t heard from them.
