After recently amending its moratorium on new development to address major updates to the city’s water and sewer system, Walton is moving forward with the improvements.

“The city is lifting some restrictions on single-family homes and small businesses,” said City Administrator John Wainwright.

The city is also considering a public reporting system on Walton’s website, where people who are experiencing storm water overflows can report issues to be addressed in a timely and coordinated fashion.

After meeting in executive session at Tuesday’s regular meeting, Wainwright said the city reached an agreement with a Walton landowner for an easement that will allow for sewer improvements in the Aosta Valley subdivision.

While the moratorium, originally created to limit new development, has been lifted, projects must still be approved by the Boone County Planning and Zoning Commission before being approved by the city.
