In a high-scoring affair, Lexington Catholic built just enough of a cushion to take down Bishop Brossart in a KHSAA girls state soccer tournament matchup in Lexington.
After Brossart opened the scoring with a 1-0 lead, the Knights built leads of 3-1 and 4-2, Brossart getting within one with 2:44 left, but couldn’t find the equalizer from there.
Rylee Fuller scored two goals and Tessa Hafer had the other for the Lady ‘Stangs. Joanna Bryant had a hat trick for the Knights, scoring their first three goals for a 3-1 lead at halftime. Fuller made it 3-2 with 27:23 to play, the Knights back up two goals on Eleanor Clay’s goal with 11:16 to go. Fuller scored to make it 4-3 with 2:44 to go.

Brossart’s season comes to a close with a 20-3-3 record that included district and region championships and an All “A” state title for the second year in a row. They’ll graduate seven seniors.
All-10th Region players included Kylie Smith, Rachel Shewmaker and Maddie Broering on the first team, Rylee Fuller, Alexis Kramer and Hadley Eviston on the second team and Larah Callahan an honorable mention. Broering and Shewmaker are seniors while the other five should help return a solid nucleus next season. Smith set the program record with 38 goals in a season.
