The Metropolitan Club, a social club, event center and dining space in Covington, permanently closed on Monday.

The club, often abbreviated to The Met Club, announced its closure via email on Monday afternoon.

“This decision was not made lightly,” the email reads. “It follows a thorough review of the club’s financial and operational position and reflects the long-term impact of post-pandemic changes in work and social patterns. The rise of remote work, reduced in-office gatherings and sustained cost increases, particularly in food, labor and insurance, have made it increasingly difficult to operate the club in a sustainable way. Despite our best efforts over the past several years, the club has operated at a financial loss, with no viable path to long-term recovery.”

The email states that anyone who had events scheduled after July 14 will be contacted to make alternative arrangements.

Founded in 1991, the club has been in operation for approximately 35 years. It was established with the goal of providing a space where professionals and community leaders could gather, socialize and collaborate.

“While this chapter is coming to a close, the spirit of The Met Club will live on in the relationships it fostered, the conversations it hosted and the sense of unity it worked to build,” the email concludes. “We are deeply grateful for your loyalty, support, and trust you placed in this community for more than three decades.”
