UPDATE: Per a report from City Manager Ken Smith delivered to the Covington City Commission on April 8, 2025, the property on 1314 Wheeler, as well as another property on 1318 Wheeler, has been successfully demolished.–LINK nky editorial, April 8, 2025

The City of Covington is set to demolish two blighted properties in the city, one in the Eastside neighborhood and the other in Austinburg.

The first property is a single-story warehouse located at 1314 Wheeler Street. The building is falling apart: the roof collapsed long ago, and the structure has become the site of illegal dumping. The current owner, which is listed as Mid South Capital Partners in Kenton County property records, has not paid taxes on the property since they purchased it in 2022, according to the city.

The second property is located at 1543 Maryland Avenue in Austinburg. This property is abandoned and likewise suffering from structural deficiencies. The owner, Terry Workman, according to Kenton County property records, has not paid taxes on the property since 2013. The city’s code enforcement board has had 11 cases brought against it over the past five years.

Both demolitions will take place this winter.
