Most of the east side of the 1900 block of Madison Avenue in Covington is now gravel after three more buildings were razed.
1918, 1924, and 1926 Madison were brought down.
Owner Ken Morgan told The River City News that he has no immediate plans for the now vacant site. The three buildings had been purchased by Morgan from the Covington Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 2013 and 2014, according to Kenton County property records.
Those records indicate that the Jehovah’s Witnesses purchased the buildings in 2006 for $200,000 along with the former Brock Furniture buildings. One of the former furniture buildings was razed in 2012 and Bruce Steffen, owner of Tesco Elevator next door, told The River City News at the time that he purchased it from the Jehovah’s Witnesses who had at one time hoped to put a religious facility on the site. That building had suffered a damaging fire.
The other Brock building is now owned by Morgan and was renovated to house a mobile phone business.
According to property records, 1918 was purchased for $50,000 in 2013 and was most recently valued at $25,000. 1924 and 1926 were bought for $10,000 in 2014 and valued at $6,000. Â
