John R. Elfers, who served as the Kenton County attorney for 28 years, passed away on Sunday at the age of 92.
“Condolences to the family of former Kenton County Attorney John Elfers who passed away on Sunday,” said current Kenton County Attorney Stacy Tapke on X. “While I didn’t know him personally, John served as County Attorney for 28 years and was there at a time of great growth in Kenton County & the airport.”
Elfers also served as the City of Covington’s city attorney for five years. During his time as the county attorney, he established the Domestic Relations Office and sat in leadership positions for various civic and professional organizations.
A public visitation will occur at the Middendorf Funeral Home in Fort Wright on Thursday, Feb. 22, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A private burial at Williamstown Veterans Cemetery is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 23. In lieu of flowers, Elfers’ family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
