Tuesday, July 4, is Independence Day, and cities around Northern Kentucky hold runs, parades, and concerts to celebrate. Here is a list of what’s happening where.

Covington 

Independence Day Dog Parade

When: Sunday, July 2 at 11 a.m.

Where: The Goose Girl Fountain in George Steinford Park, 6th Street Promenade

What: Get out the red, white, and blue scarves, collars, leashes, and other patriotic canine accessories in your pup’s wardrobe. Covington Parks and Recreation’s Independence Day Dog Parade is taking place this weekend, and there are prizes for the most patriotic pups. 


Edgewood

Fourth of July 5k run, parade, concert, and fireworks.

5k run

When: Tuesday, July 4. Race Day registration will open at 6:15 a.m. and closes at 7 a.m. The race will take off at 7:30 a.m. 

Where: President’s Park, 283, Dudley Road. 

What: The 45th Annual City of Edgewood Independence Day 5k race includes divisions for runners, walkers, and a children’s fun run. 

Parade

When: Tuesday, July 4 at 9:30 a.m. 

Where: Participants will assemble at the Caywood Elementary and Turkeyfoot Middle School campus at 8:45 a.m. A brief award ceremony will follow the parade at the flagpole in Presidents Park. 

What: This year’s parade theme is the 75th Star Spangled Anniversary. Plaques will be awarded to the best original entry, performing entry, and entry honoring the fourth. 

Concert/Fireworks

When: Tuesday, July 4 at 7:30 p.m. 

Where: Freedom Park, 550 Freedom Park Drive. 

What: The “Derek Alan Band” will perform before the fireworks show. In case of rain, the fireworks will be rescheduled for July 5. 


Florence 

Independence Day events and fireworks show

When: Monday, July 3, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. 

Where: Florence Government Center, 8100 Ewing Blvd. 

What: Food and beverages will be available for purchase from vendors – Dreamy Whip, Travelin’ Toms, Poseidon’s Pizza, Eddie’s BBQ, Caramel Cuties Sweets, and Bailey Janes.

There will be a kid’s activity area and live music during the event. The Florence Community Band will play at 7 p.m., and live music by DJ Nick will begin at 8 p.m. The event will end with a fireworks show at 10 p.m.


Fort Mitchell 

Independence Day parade

When: Tuesday, July 4, 12:30 p.m.

Where: Orphanage Road to Dixie Highway to Beechwood Road.

What: The parade Grand Marshal is Noel Rash, the retired Beechwood High School football coach. This year’s theme is Eye of the Tiger.

City streets along Dixie Highway between Orphanage Road and Beechwood Road will close at noon. The parade will take place rain or shine.


Fort Thomas 

Fort Thomas Independence Day Parade

When: Tuesday, July 4, at 10:30 a.m.

Where: The steps of Highland United Methodist Church

What: The Fort Thomas Independence Day parade will start with the dedication from the mayor to the grand marshal. It will then lead through the Cultural Arts District along North/ South Fort Thomas Avenue and end at the Nevada Building in the Historic Midway District.


Independence 

Two-day celebration and fireworks event

Festival

When: Friday, June 30, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Where: Memorial Park, 2001 Jackwoods Parkway 

What: 5 p.m.: The festival opens with family activities with $15 ride bracelets. 

6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Circus Mojo brings the Big Top with aerial acrobats, fire jugglers, clowns, and more.

7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.: HiFi Honey, a top 40 variety show band, will take the stage.

10 p.m.: Roman candle display

Festival, parade, and fireworks

When: Saturday, July 1, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

What/Where: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: The Cars and Pipes Annual Car Show at the Kroger Marketplace, 1700 Declaration Drive. 

3 p.m.: The Independence Day Parade starts at Summit View Academy, winding down Madison Pike to Simon Kenton High School.

4 p.m. to 12 a.m.: Memorial Park is open for the Independence celebration festivities after the parade ends. $20 ride bracelets

7 p.m.: GenX takes the stage.

10 p.m.: Vito’s Fireworks Show.

The Hickory Grove Extreme zone (basketball and pickleball court area) will have things to keep the kiddos busy with basketball, pickleball, scavenger hunts, a rock-climbing wall, a mobile gaming trailer, a bouncy house, and more.

No coolers or outside alcoholic drinks are allowed at the festival.


Union

Independence Day celebration and parade

When: Friday, June 30, 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Where: Ryle High School, 10379 US-42, Union

What: The parade will kick off at 6 p.m., starting at the Union Baptist Church on Mount Zion Road and going down Route 42 toward Ryle High School. Road closures begin at 5:45 p.m.

The event will start at 6:30 p.m. featuring an array of food trucks, including Graeter’s, KP Sweets & Eats, Strongs Pizza, SEA Cuisine, Marty’s Waffles, Holey Donuts, Kona Ice, and Sweets & Meats BBQ.

There will be kid activities and bounce houses. DV8 will be performing during the event. To end the evening, a firework finale will begin after 9:30 p.m. The event will take place rain or shine.
