The Kenton County Historical Society will dedicate a new monument at the site of a mass grave in Fort Mitchell’s Highland Cemetery Saturday, June 17, at 10:30 a.m., according to a press release from the society.
“In 1872, The City of Covington removed the remains of 1,600 unidentified persons from the Craig Street Cemetery, re-interring them in the mass grave at Highland Cemetery,” according to the historical society.
Craig Street Cemetery had served as a burial site for the city’s prisoners before the city voted to close it.
The event is free and open to the public.
