University of Minnesota quarterback and Ryle alum Tanner Morgan has signed as an undrafted free agent to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Morgan went undrafted over the last three days in the 2023 NFL Draft, but was quickly signed by the Steelers after the draft on Saturday.
Morgan holds 12 records during his time at Minnesota, most notably with 3,253 passing yards and 30 touchdown passed during the 2019 season. He went 33-14 as a starter and had a career completion percentage of 62% during his time as a Golden Gopher.
He graduated from Ryle in 2017 and is in the all-time KHSAA record book for being 10th in completions (681) and ninth in passing yards (10,303).
The acquisition gives Morgan a chance to make the roster, the Steelers with two quarterbacks currently on the team in Kenny Pickett and Mitch Trubisky. Rookie minicamp is set to begin in two weeks where Morgan will join the 90-man roster and is anticipated to participate.
Morgan was drafted eighth overall by the Michigan Panthers in the USFL draft in February, but never joined the team as they began their season April 16.
