The host Covington Catholic Colonels baseball team (12-4) took down the Bishop Brossart Mustangs, 8-6 for their fourth straight win.
CovCath batted .423 (11 for 26) overall in the win. Sophomore third baseman Marcus Suwinski went 2-for-2 with one run batted in and one run scored and senior catcher Jonathan Fitz belted his third home run of the season plating two and scoring twice. Junior Owen Leen and sophomore shortstop Jackson Reardon went 2-for-4 scoring one run each. Leen and junior Joseph Magary had triples with senior Max Lawrie doubling and plating two.
Leen (2-0) pitched six innings to earn the win. He struck out five and walked four. Suwinski nailed down the save.
Bishop Brossart (10-11) batted .313 (10 for 32) overall. Senior first baseman Robbie Verst went 2-for-3 with a double and scored once with senior right fielder Evan Moore going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Senior left fielder Sam Willike also went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Senior shortstop Logan Meyer scored twice and junior center fielder Alex Amin added a double.
Sophomore Ben Volmer (1-2) started on the mound for the Mustangs and pitched three innings striking out two. Sophomore Alex Noe and junior Brandon Burkhardt pitched in relief.
CovCath travels to Boone County (6-11-1) on Saturday at 11 a.m. then takes on St. Henry (6-10) at 7:30 p.m. in the Mike Epplen Dirty Hat Classic. Brossart plays at Bourbon County (14-5) on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The host Bearcats (14-3) downed the visiting Colonels (7-13) in a rain-shortened six-inning game.
Walton-Verona batted .375 (9 for 24) overall. Senior first baseman Lance Coleman belted his team-high fourth home run in the win going 2-for-4 adding a double and scoring twice with one RBI. Senior shortstop Evan Kerns doubled and scored twice with junior third baseman Bryce Corpus driving in two and scoring twice. Junior left fielder Julian Dixon doubled and senior second baseman Ed Drohan tripled.
Corpus pitched into the fifth inning striking out five and walking two. But senior Bradley Perry (1-0) earned the win finishing the game striking out one and walking two.
Dixie Heights batted .280 (7 for 25) overall. Junior second baseman Luke Abeling led the Colonels going 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and scored one run.
Senior Owen Lawrence (1-2) pitched into the fifth inning striking out one and walking five. Senior Caleb Hinkle finished the game.
Walton-Verona plays Campbell County at 4 p.m. in the Mike Epplen Dirty Hat Classic. Dixie Heights plays host to Cooper (6-14) at 5 p.m. on Monday.
