All staff members of the Boone County Schools will receive a 3% raise after action taken at the Board of Education meeting earlier this month. The raise is in addition to any step increases for which staff members qualify.
The raise takes effect July 1, 2023. The number of staff numbers vary throughout the year from 3,500 to 3,800, according to Barbara Brady, Schools/Community Relations coordinator and school spokesperson.
According to the online source, Public School Review, Boone County School system is the third largest in the Commonwealth of Kentucky with 20,280 students and is ranked in the top 10% of public schools in Kentucky.
The latest data available from the Kentucky Department of Education’s School Report Card showed that during the 2020-21 school year, Boone County Schools spent just $14,878 per student, less than the state average of $15,067.
As with all school systems, the largest part of the budget goes toward staff costs. In Boone County it is reported to be 87% of the budget.
In a separate agenda item, the board voted to rectify an oversight by adding $1 per hour differential pay to the paychecks of all custodians, warehouse workers and supervisors for second shift work. This pay increase affects only one staff member since most of the affected group was already eligible for the higher pay rate.
