Three reasons to give blood in the month of February

One in seven patients entering a hospital need a blood transfusion, yet only about 3% of Americans give blood.

The Red Cross needs people to make and keep appointments to give blood or platelets in the month of February and they have three reasons to do so:

• Help prevent a blood shortage. Winter brings seasonal illness and damaging weather which can hurt the blood supply.
• It’s Heart Month. During a donation appointment, the Red Cross checks donors’ blood pressure and pulse which are important indicators of heart health.
• Treat yourself. All that come in to donate this month will receive a $10 Amazon Gift Card. You will also automatically be entered to win a trip for two to Clearwater Beach, Florida.

Donors of all blood types, particularly type O blood donors, which is the most needed blood group by hospitals, and platelet donors are needed daily to meet demand.

Feb. 28: 1 p.m. – 6 p.m., Vineyard Church, 7101 Pleasant Valley Road
