A pair of Ryle seniors are two of 722 nominees for the prestigious McDonald’s All-American basketball game.
Abby Holtman and Austin Johnson were named to the list on Wednesday, nominated for selection to participate in the 45th anniversary McDonald’s All American Games, 48 of them (24 girls and 24 boys) will be selected to play in the games in March.
The 48 players selected will become public on Jan. 25. A McDonald’s All American Game nomination is the culmination of hard work and determination spanning many years of to become one of basketball’s elite.
Holtman has committed to the University of Cincinnati and is leading the team in scoring with 16.3 points per game in her senior season. The guard has scored 1,376 points in her career and has pulled down 417 rebounds. The perimeter threat has drained 250 three-pointers and is a 76% free throw shooter throughout her career.

Johnson is committed to Division II North Greenville in Tigersville, South Carolina. The guard is in her sixth varsity season with the Raiders and has scored 1,163 points in her career. Johnson has been efficient in all facets of the game, most notably at the free throw line as a career 75% free throw shooter and currently leads the state hitting 91% of her free throws this season.
The Raiders are off to a 14-4 start and ranked No. 5 in the state currently.
Five girls from Kentucky were nominated, Holtman and Johnson, Trimble County’s Gracie Jent, Sacred Heart’s Triniti Ralston and Rowan County’s Haven Ford.
North Laurel’s Reed Sheppard, a University of Kentucky signee, was the only boys player nominated from Kentucky.
