With the organizational restructuring of the City of Covington, the intake and review process for Building Permits will be handled through the Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission, effective October 24, 2012. Please be aware that this only applies to the building permit process. Zoning permits and Certificate of Appropriateness permits will still be issued through the City of Covington out of the Community Services Division of the Department of Development. The intake and review process of building permits will be as follows:

1.)     Applicant can either drop off Building Permit applications to the Community Services Division of the Department of Development (2nd Floor of Covington City Hall) or take the application directly to Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission (2332 Royal Drive, Fort Mitchell, KY 41017 859-957-2408.)

* Please note, it is encouraged that all applications are submitted directly to Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission rather than to the Covington Community Services Division of the Department of Development. Should the application be submitted at Covington City Hall, applications will take an additional 3 – 4 days for review due to delivery and transfer to the Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission offices.

2.)     All applications submitted will require the proper plans and drawings to be submitted with a complete Building Permit application and the required application fee. The application must be filled out in its entirety. Any incomplete applications and inadequate submittals will not be accepted.

3.)     All applications are due by 3:30 PM (Monday – Friday) in order for the application to be delivered to Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission on the same day of submittal. Any application submitted after 3:30 PM (Monday – Friday) will be delivered to Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission the following day.

4.)     Once the application and plans have been reviewed, the applicant will be contacted by the Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission for next steps regarding permit pick-up and any final payments due.

Please be aware, it is highly encouraged that all Building Permit applications be submitted directly to the Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission offices at 2332 Royal Drive, Fort Mitchell, KY 41017, 859-957-2408.
