Welcome House is celebrating 40 years in the community with a fundraiser happy hour at Braxton Brewery that will benefit its new facility.

Welcome House started construction on its new 20,000-square-foot facility that will double its capacity to serve people who are homeless in Northern Kentucky, according to a press release from the organization. The new Homeless Services Center will help “provide safe, clean, and dignified care while easing the transition into permanent, sustained housing.”

“With the continued reality of a decreasing housing market, a crippling economy, and higher rates of eviction, Welcome House services are needed more than ever,” a statement from the nonprofit said.

Welcome House has set a goal of $18,000 to help buy bunk beds for the new facility.

“We served 175 women and children last year, and our new shelter will nearly double that capacity,” explained Danielle Amrine, CEO. “Our hope is that the community will rally to help us purchase these bunk beds and to be part of the future of Welcome House.”

The new center aims to provide more room for women and children, as well as increase capacity for two-parent families, as well as elderly and transitional-age youth. The center brings all Welcome House services offered at eight different locations under one roof, making it easier for clients to access them.

“This is such an exciting time for Welcome House and we want to celebrate with our community and show our appreciation for everyone who has supported us,” Amrine said. “We invite anyone to join us for a fun evening.”

The happy hour event will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Braxton Brewery at 27 W. 7th St. in Covington on Tuesday, July 12.
