To be the winning team, fan votes play a heavy role, along with consideration from our sports team here at LINK.

Nominations are reader-submitted or recommended by our sports team. Our Team of the Week program honors all local sports at all levels, whether it’s youth- or adult-oriented recreation, high school or college, professional or amateur.

This week’s nominated teams are listed below with some information provided by the submitter. The poll where you can vote follows at the end of the article.


Our submitter writes, “These girls won three games to close out there season at 9-8-1. We won against Calvary Christian for the first time in 9 years. They have worked hard since May of this year and put up more wins than the last 2 seasons combined. With a very young team they are building something great for seasons to come!”

LINK staff nominee. The Bluebirds have won five straight games after starting the season, 0-2. Not only has Highlands won, the team has done it by lighting up the scoreboard, putting up more than 50 points in their last three games. Last week, Highlands brought down Conner, 55-0.

LINK staff pick. The Pandas had a strong showing in a Chicago-based tournament over the weekend, claiming victory in four of five games. The Pandas are now 23-4 on the season after those wins, which included toppling Louisville powerhouse Assumption.

Correction: Previously, this article referenced NDA as the defending state champs. Notre Dame won the title in 2020. St. Henry is the defending state champion, having won the tournament in 2021.

LINK staff pick. The Bearcats nipped Carroll Co. last Friday night, 28-26, to win a key district match-up. Walton-Verona is now 5-2 on the season.
