A 79-year-old man is dead following a house fire on Isabella Drive in Newport Sunday, according to the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office.

Lloyd Redmon was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center after the fire, where he later died, the coroner said.

Firefighters from Newport, Bellevue/Dayton and Covington worked to extinguish the fire.

“The fire was extinguished within minutes, but extensive damage was done to the home,” said Newport Fire Chief Frank Peluso in a press release Monday.

The release said that an older resident attempted to extinguish the fire but was unsuccessful and suffered burns and was then taken to UC Medical Center.

A younger occupant of the home, according to the release, was able to lower himself out of a second-story window.

Two dogs were in the home and escaped unharmed.

The younger occupant was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Fort Thomas. Officials did not have an update on that person’s condition.

The blaze caused approximately $100,000 in damage, the release said, and the Campbell County Fire Investigation Team is working to understand the origin of the fire.

WCPO contributed to this report.
