Flyer promoting The Community Among Us Fundraiser for KFTC and Tornado Relief Drop-Off at Southgate House Revival

Kentuckians For The Commonwealth Host The Community Among Us and Partners with the Southgate House Revival to Support Tornado Relief in Kentucky

Newport, Kentucky – On May 24th the Northern Kentucky Chapter of Kentuckians For The Commonwealth plans a fundraiser at the Southgate House Revival – featuring hip hop, folk, and the voices of members who are working to build a more just Kentucky. It also will kick off a drive of needed materials for folks in the London and Somerset areas impacted by the recent EF4 tornado there.

Chapter members came to this theme to celebrate the community that binds us all together, knowing that the issues the impact one of us impacts us all. Looking for a way to build that community, celebrate the diversity of experience within Kentucky. With that in mind, the chapter is also using this as a kick-off of recovery materials for neighbors impacted by the tornado.

We are asking people to donate shelf-stable food, baby food, diapers, period products, pet food, durable tarps, and mold-killers to support families directly impacted. They can leave materials in donation bins at the Southgate House Revival between Saturday May 24th and Thursday June 4th. View more resources at bit.ly/Tornado25

The fundraiser has a $15 fee at the door – or $10 in advance at bit.ly/NKY_Community. Doors open at 3 pm, with the program running from 4 to 6 pm. Musical performances from local hiphop artist Ekknowledge and folk band Raison D’Etre. We also will hear from members Tyana Raspberry (talking about the work she and other students at Northern Kentucky University led to help protect Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs), and Julie Donna (speaking about the ongoing work around environmental justice across the state, and especially about the local environmental justice work team).

Doors open on May 24th at 3 pm, and the fundraiser will be taking place inside The Lounge until 7 pm. Members will be on hand to talk about other work the chapter is doing – from the local Racial and Economic Justice work team, Bodily Autonomy and LGBTQ+ work team, and the work around Popular Education.
